Stratis Health Elects Three Health Care Leaders to Board of Directors

Renee Frauendienst, Stephen Kolar, and Mike Wilcox have been elected to the board of directors of Stratis Health, a Bloomington-based nonprofit organization that leads collaboration and innovation in health care quality and safety, and serves as a trusted expert in facilitating improvement for people and communities.

The three new members bring extensive clinical experience and expertise in health care, particularly in the areas of rural and public health, health systems, and critical and emergency care.

Renee Frauendienst, RN, BSN, is the director of public health for Stearns County in Central Minnesota. Renee possesses broad knowledge and experience, including rural health and county health and human services systems. She is an active participant in the Local Public Health Association of Minnesota, a statewide organization of public health directors, and the State Community Health Services Advisory Committee, where she has served in several leadership capacities and on multiple workgroups, including essential public health services, emergency preparedness, and disease prevention & control. Renee is member of the Minnesota State Innovation Model (SIM) Community Advisory Task Force.

Stephen Kolar, MD, FACP, is senior vice president and chief medical officer at HealthEast Care System. He has practiced internal medicine in St. Paul since the late 70s, served as the physician executive for the HealthEast Clinics and moved into the CMO role in 2008. He has been active in expanding the clinic operation. He has led HealthEast's efforts to reduce preventable hospital readmissions, and the engagement of the medical staff to support the development of the HealthEast ACO/MSSP.

Mike Wilcox, MD, is a family physician who has spent most of his career in practice in rural/mid-sized Minnesota communities in New Prague and Faribault. For much of his career, he has held a special interest in emergency medicine, and completed a Bush Fellowship in critical/emergency care. As medical director, Mike began Minnesota's Community Paramedic Program. He has retired from emergency room duty. He is medical director for 82 EMS, police, and fire agencies in south-central Minnesota, for Scott County Public Health, and for the EMS programs at Hennepin Technical College. Mike is the former state EMS medical director of Minnesota.

Their three-year terms of service run January 2015 through December 2017. The Stratis Health Board of Directors has 15 members, and includes diverse representation of physician and nurse leadership, health system and health plan leadership, business sector expertise, academic and research representation, and consumer perspectives. Three outgoing board members completed their board service at the end of 2014.
